Traffic Stop Leads to Narcotics and Stolen Firearm

June 26, 2026

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at approximately 7:21 PM, the Caroline County Communications Center received a report of a vehicle being operated in a reckless and negligent manner on Shore Highway. Sheriff’s Deputies were already in the area and responded immediately.
Cpl. Greenlee located a white GMC Sierra 1500 bearing Pennsylvania registration, and observed the vehicle being driven negligently. He performed a traffic stop on the vehicle near Shore Highway and Downes Station Road. The driver, identified as Ryan Gerald Dailey a 38-year-old male of Laurel, MD, exhibited noticeable nervous behavior and attributed his erratic driving to a large pit bulldog in the rear seat.
During the stop, K-9 Ace, Cpl. Greenlee’s certified K-9 partner, conducted K9 scan around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled dangerous substances (CDS). A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of:
• Heroin
• Fentanyl
• Powder Cocaine
• Crack Cocaine
• Suboxone strips
• Hypodermic needles
• A cutting agent
• A digital scale with CDS residue
The quantity and variety of narcotics recovered were consistent with possession with intent to distribute. Deputies also located a loaded .380 caliber handgun in the center console. The firearm was confirmed to have been reported stolen in New Castle, Delaware. Dailey was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including:
• Handgun in Vehicle
• CDS: Distribution, etc. with Firearm
• Firearm Use in a Felony/Violent Crime
• Firearm/Drug Trafficking Crime
• Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm
• Transporting a Loaded Handgun on a Public Roadway
Dailey was presented before a District Court Commissioner and ordered held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center. The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the safety of our roadways and communities through proactive enforcement efforts.
As with all legal proceedings, it is important to remember that all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
