The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers who claim to be law enforcement.

What the scam looks like:

• Caller says you have a federal warrant

• Threatens arrest if you don’t act immediately

• Tells you to drive to a store and wire money (often around $1,000) to “speed up the bail process”

THIS IS A SCAM.

Law enforcement agencies will NOT:

• Demand payment over the phone

• Ask for wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency

• Pressure you to act immediately

If you receive a call like this:

Hang up

Do not send money

Report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov
